|Abstract||The robberfly Stichopogon elegantulus new to the Netherlands (Diptera: Asilidae) |
A female of the robberfly Stichopogon elegantulus (Wiedemann in Meigen 1820) was discovered in a malaise trap in Papenvoort (Drenthe, the Netherlands) on June, 22th, 1998. It is the first record for the Netherlands. The capture is odd because it is far north from the nearest sites where the species occurs, along the river Rhine in the southern parts of Germany. In Germany, the species extends its range northward. We expect, however, that the Dutch specimen was transported accidentally by man. There are no populations between our site and the sites in southern Germany, making it improbable that the range already extends so far north.
