Abstract	The type series of Trochilus verticalis Deppe, 1830, deposited in the collections of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (ZMB) and the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NMW), consists of five specimens of different taxa and one specimen with aberrant characters. However, the original description of verticalis refers to Agyrtria cyanocephala (Lesson, 1829), to which only the two NMW specimens clearly correspond. Therefore NMW 2.670 (male, Perote) is designated as lectotype of Trochilus verticalis Deppe, 1830.
