Abstract	The present paper describes a new species of the genus Rhynchocinetes from the Indo-West Pacific region. The species, R. hiatti n. sp., whose name has repeatedly appeared in print as a nomen nudum, is closely related to R. rigens Gordon from the Atlantic but distinguishable from the latter by the presence of pterygostomian spine, the peculiar colour pattern and other small differences.
