Abstract	A new species Oxycanus balgooyi is described from the vicinity of the Research Station at Mt. Wilhelm in the Eastern Highlands of New Guinea. There is a discussion on its presumed relationships with two other members of the genus, one from Western Australia and the other from the Carstensz Peak in Western New Guinea.
