| Abstract | A copula of Boreus hyemalis found on the stem of a tree at night (Mecoptera: Boreidae) During a winter night a copula of Boreus hyemalis (Linnaeus, 1767) was found on the stem of a tree (30 cm above the ground) in a dense forest near Goirle (province of Noord- Brabant). This is a remarkable observation because Boreus is thought to be a ground dwelling species, associated with open sand dunes and active during the daytime. Observations of insects on tree stems during winter nights prove to be very rewarding. |
