AbstractThe cyclopid genus Haplocyclops Kiefer, 1952, generally considered as a subgenus of Bryocyclops, is revalidated, and its diagnosis emended. Haplocyclops torresi sp. n. is described from the Rio Doce, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the first record of this genus from the South American continent. Harpacticoids found in the same river were identified as Potamocaris estevesi Reid, 1991. The latter species is redescribed, the female described for the first time, and its distribution area is widened with new records in rivers of the southeastern part of Brazil. The mouthparts of P. estevesi are described for the first time.
