| Abstract | Dytiscus latissimus after 38 years rediscovered in the Netherlands in 2005 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) In 2005 two males of the water beetle Dytiscus latissimus were caught near Uffelte (province of Drenthe). The species is endangered throughout its range and was thought to be extinct in the Netherlands. It is listed in Annex ii and iv of the Habitats Directive and is therefore heavily protected. Uffelte is also the last location were D. latissimus was found (in 1967), so it’s obvious that the population has always persisted. Further research will have to clarify the status of the population. |
