Abstract	A new species of the leptolid family Plumulariidae, Nemertesia tropica spec. nov. is described. The various species of Nemertesia are listed and their synonymy and characters discussed. Allocation in Nemertesia of some species previously described in Plumularia by Fraser (1938-1948) necessitated the introduction of two new names, viz. Nemertesia californica nom. nov. for Plumularia mutabilis Fraser, 1948 and Nemertesia mexicana nom. nov. for Plumularia reversa Fraser, 1938.
