AbstractTrogloianiropsis lloberai n. gen., n. sp. is described from the flooded coastal karst of the Balearic Islands. It superficially resembles Ianiropsis Sars, 1897 and Janaira Moreira & Pires, 1977, but differs from both in some remarkable characters. It seems to be restricted to the deeper layers of anchihaline cave lakes, and shows a troglobitized morphology (i.e.: absence of eyes and body pigmentation, and extraordinary elongation of antennae). Since its phyletic affinities are not clear, its biogeographic significance and possible derivation from deep-sea or shallow-water ancestors cannot be established.
