| Abstract | A detailed description of Deinogalerix is provided. In addition to the type species, four new species are distinguished: D. freudenthali, D. minor, D. brevirostris, and D. intermedius. There were two lineages, which differed in size. Deinogalerix was not directly derived from any of the Galericinae known from Europe but was probably an immigrant from Asia. It is interpreted as a predator which captured prey by a snapping action of the jaws. |
