| Abstract | Research in southeastern France, on both Recent and Pleistocene land gastropods, enables us to interpret compositional changes in Pleistocene communities in terms of altitudinal shift of bioclimatic zones. This permits reliable quantitative estimates of palaeotemperatures. |
