AbstractCeriana vespiformis new to the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae)
Two Dutch specimens of the mediterranean hoverfly Ceriana vespiformis (Latreille, 1804) were discovered. These are the first known specimens of this species from The Netherlands. One male was collected in Best (province of Noord-Brabant) in 1978, and one female in Winterswijk (province of Gelderland) in 1980. Some information is given on the distribution and biology of the species, and a key is provided to the two Dutch species of the genus Ceriana. The possibility of mislabelling is considered not to be likely.
