Platycheirus aurolateralis, a second sibling of P. scutatus, new for the Netherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) Recently, two new species were described in the Platycheirus scutatus (Meigen, 1822) complex: P. aurolateralis Stubbs, 2002 and P. speighti Doczkal, Stuke & Goeldlin de Tiefenau, 2002. Re-examination of the material of P. splendidus revealed that P. aurolateralis also occurs in the Netherlands. The Dutch records of both P. aurolateralis and P. splendidus are summarised in a table and a distribution map. A key is provided for the males of all four species of the Platycheirus scutatus complex. The differences between the males are also summarised in a table. The two specimens of P. splendidus recorded from France and Belgium (Smit 2001) are respectively P. aurolateralis and P. splendidus.
