The syrphid Microdon myrmicae in the Netherlands (Diptera: Syrphidae) Microdon mutabilis has been present on the Dutch syrphid list for a long time. Schönrogge et al. (2002) described M. myrmicae as a close relative of M. mutabilis, based on characters of the larvae and pupae. In sites of which old records of M. cf. mutabilis existed were visited, to establish the true identity of this species. In two of the eight sites larvae and pupae were found. They could be identified as Microdon myrmicae. Based on this information it is proposed to replace the name Microdon mutabilis for Microdon myrmicae on the Dutch syrphid list.
