The identity of Drosophila brunnea De Meijere is precised, a lectotype ♀ and an allotype ♂ are designated. D. scutellimargo Duda is considered as a good species. The following species are described: D. kyushuensis n. sp. from Japan, D. parabrunnea n. sp. and D. pressobrunnea n. sp., from Sumatra and Java, D. eoundo n. sp. and D. medleri n. sp. from Africa. The new species group brunnea is erected for these species and divided into two sub-groups: the brunnea sub-group for the Oriental species and the eoundo sub-group for the African species. The distribution of the character ”wide tip scutellum” in the family Drosophilidae is briefly discussed.
