The accessible material of all described taxa supposed to be closely related to or identical with Tipula (Lunatipula) recticornis Schummel is revised and fresh specimens belonging to this complex are studied. It can be ascertained that T. longipyga Lundström & Frey is a synonym of T. recticornis Schummel while T. densursi Alexander is not. Thus five species of the Tipula (Lunatipula) recticornis – group are now recognized: T. recticornis Schummel (Europe), T. densursi Alexander (North-America), T. subrecticornis Savtshenko (Asia) and two new species described in this paper, namely T. melanothrix from the Altai Mountains and the Siberian T. pararecticornis. A new form of T. subrecticornis, argyrea f.n. is characterized. All known species of the group are carefully illustrated and arranged in a key. The distribution and evolution of the group and its species are briefly discussed. The type specimens of both new species are preserved in the collection of the Zoological Institute, Leningrad (UdSSR).
