TitleRare and remarkable Foraminifera of the Caribbean Sea
JournalStudies on the Fauna of Curaçao and other Caribbean Islands
AbstractWhen studying samples from the Virgin Islands area, some new Foraminifera were found, together with other species of which little was known about their internal structure and taxonomic status. Most specimens came from samples W of St. Croix, collected by Th. Mortensen at about 17.5°N 64°W, depths about 200 and 300 m. These samples are very rich in benthonic Foraminifera, but relatively poor in planktonic species all of which are relatively small and with very thin tests. This material contained many specimens already described in previous publications (e.g. Hofker 1956, 1972 and 1976).
The material studied has been deposited in the collections of the Netherlands Geological Survey at Haarlem, Netherlands.
