In a collection of fishes, in Jan. ’94 presented to the Leyden Museum by the Lieutenant of arms J. v. Stockum, and collected in the Strait of Makassar, Balabalongan or Little Paternoster Isles, I found a species of the genus Novacula C. V., which, after examination, seems to me to be new for science. Dr. A. Günther, whom I asked to look for in the collections of the British Museum, confirmed me in my opinion and wrote me: »I have no doubt »your specimen of Novacula belongs to a species un»known to me”. In honour of the collector I call this new species Novacula Stockumii.
