A comparative study of acetone, ethanol, and hydrolysis extracts of Hua gahonii Pierre ( Bos 6677, leaves) and Afrostyrax lepidophyllus Mildbr. (Brookman Amissah s.n., bark) has been carried out. The presence of the following compounds could not be demonstrated: gallic acid, ellagic acid, leucoanthocyanins, catechin, arbutin, hydroquinone, and bergenin. As these compounds occur rarely or are absent in the Bombacaceae and Sterculiaceae, their seeming absence in the Huaceae suggests the possibility of a relationship between these families.
