TitleStudies in the Arundinelleae (Gramineae) VIII. The Phylogeny — A Hypothesis
JournalBlumea - Biodiversity, Evolution and Biogeography of Plants
AbstractThis study considers the 163 species accepted as belonging to the tribe Arundinelleae (Gramineae) and arranges them into a putative cladogram. A discussion of the rationale is presented, 38 characters are studied for advanced versus primitive states, advancement indices calculated, and trends of variation discussed. The six major groups of Phipps (1966b) are maintained. The phylogeny conforms excellently with the geographical aspects of the continental drift hypothesis though it requires a greater age for the Angiosperms than is generally held to be the case.
