Alectoria fuscescens Gyeln. s.l. [syn. A. jubata (L.) Ach. and A. positiva (Gyeln.) Motyka] has been found in the dry dunes of the West Frisian Island of Terschelling. The lichen grows in a vegetation belonging to a pioneer stage of the Violo-Corynephoretum Westhoff (1943)1947 or a succession stage of this association to the Polypodio-Empetretum (Meltzer 1941) Westhoff 1947. The last-named vegetation type is characterized by mats of Dicranum scoparium Hedw. to and between which A. fuscescens is attached. There are several stations where the lichen seems to flourish.
