In 1986 a population of Matteuccia struthiopteris was found in a planted Populus-wood in the polder Oostelijk Flevoland, growing on calcareous, sandy soil which was wet because of considerable amounts of seepage water. The habitat fits well with natural habitats of the species in Central Europe. As, moreover, quite a number of bryophytes, fungi, and pteridophytes from seepage habitats have recently been found in the vicinity, the new Matteuccia locality may be considered as a natural one.
