Dr. J.A.R. Anderson was on long leave during 1968 and worked in the Edinburgh Herbarium. He is engaged in writing a Manual of the Peat Swamp Forests of Sarawak. This will be primarily for departmental use though it will include descriptions of all arboreal species. In future he intends to write a monograph on the ecology of the peat swamps for Borneo. He retired as Conservator of Forest at Kuching, but will return to assume the post of Head of Research of the Forestry Service, in connection with a five-year plan. Mr. Gilbert Bocquet has been appointed as Konservator der Botanischen Sammlungen, E.T.H., Zürich.
