Botany 2000-Asia — From the Newsletter 3/2 (June 1994) the following: — Workshop on Piperaceae to be held in 1995. For more information write to Mr. M. van Alphen, UNESCO/ROSTEA, 8 Poorvi Marg, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi-11057, India. — The second Symposium on the Zingiberaceae will be held between 9 and 12 May, 1995, at the South China Institute of Botany, Guangzhou, China. — Various training courses in herbarium techniques and curation are being held (see also Fl. Males. Bull. 11/3, p. 212,217). UNESCO will arrange sponsorship for up to three applicants from a single country. This will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, food, local expenses, and course material. Participants are expected to be conversant in English. The course is aimed at graduate non-taxonomists who run herbaria, technical staff with several years of experience, young teachers especially of colleges and remote universities specializing in plant taxonomy, preference have those who have working experience, but no formal training, and staff of new herbaria, or those under development. The Cucurbit Network News is a bi-annual newsletter aimed at students of Cucurbitaceae. Issue 1/1 is of Spring 1994 and contains an introduction to Ecballium elaterium, introduction to various professionals, organizations, requests for information and/or material, reviews, calendar for future meetings.
