The Checklist of the flora of Cebu by D. Bicknell is finished. It is intended to be published as a CD-ROM which will contain plates of 168 pteridophytes and 1578 spermatophytes. For those who need to invent names for new taxa or is interested in their derivation it will be very worthwhile to invest USD 27.95 in the reprint of R.W. Brown’s Composition of scientific words (Rev. ed. 1956; reprint: 2000) ii, 882 pp, Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington DC. ISBN 1-56098-848-7 (PB). W.T.
