In the Netherlands, usually only one Leucanthemum species is recognised, L. vulgare Lam. Recent field observations suggest that the Leucanthemum species that occurs abundantly in the Netherlands is the tetraploid species L. ircutianum DC instead. A few Dutch specimens in the herbarium collection of Naturalis in L, however, have been identified as belonging to the 'true' diploid L. vulgare. The latter seems to be rare in the Netherlands, and might be confined to a few relict populations. In Nederland word slechts één Leucanthemum-soort onderscheiden die hier bekend staat onder de naam L. vulgare Lam., een diploïde soort. Op basis van veldobservaties moet echter worden geconcludeerd dat de algemeen voorkomende Margriet in Nederland waarschijnlijk de tetraploïde L. ircutianum DC. is. In het herbarium van Naturalis te L werden echter ook een aantal exemplaren van de ' echte' L. vulgare aangetroffen. Deze soort is in Nederland waarschijnlijk zeldzaam en komt mogelijk alleen in een beperkt aantal relictpopulaties voor.
